Climate and Nature Decline Research

Food Waste

The best way to not waste food after eating is to make sure to prepare what food to buy before you go to the store. Firstly, list down any food you know you would eat it all and check on the expiry date, so you can buy the updated version. And make sure you check your fridge and freezer to look at the food, so you don't buy any duplicates.

When it comes to eating but still having food on your plate, it can vary on what the food on the plate could be. For most foods, they can easily be preserved and put into the fridge. For example, you can put any remaining pieces of beef, chicken or meat into a glass box, so they may be used for later usage.

In case for vegetables and fruit can be repurposed into food for Earth. Like putting them into the compost bin, so they can become energy for plant life and help the world much more. If the person has any pet birds or chickens, they can use any fruit that passed its expiry date to feed them.

Energy use

Energy is important to our world and society to strengthen. But most are used by non-renewable energy sources such as coal, oil and natural gas. First off, there are many methods for renewable energy, these range from solar panels to use the solar energy of the sun, wind turbines to use the freezing winds, biomass to use organic matter and waste to power and so many to list down like hydroelectric, geothermal and tidal waves.

But what are the benefits of using renewable energy against non-renewable energy. To get the obvious out of the way, renewable energy is unlimited compared to fossil fuels. The sun lasts for billions of years while something like oil and coal are limited inside our planet. Another point is renewable energy is friendly to the environment and does not cause emissions, besides some of the technology they power.

This also leads us onto another point; it can increase public health. By reducing greenhouse emissions and other polluting substances, not only would it make the lives of many people happy, but it will make the population much healthier.

Sustainable transport

We all know that the common transportation people use is cars. But they are mostly fueled by petrol, which is a fossil fuel and therefore produce carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. However, there are effective ways for sustainable transportation.

Recently, a lot of people like to travel on transportation like buses, trains, bikes and scooters. The first two mentioned are more environmentally friendly. While most of the buses and trains run on fossil fuels like cars, they can carry many more people in a go and produce less emissions per person.

There are also ways to limit usage by cars. If your house is very close to the destination, you can walk towards it or ride a bicycle for quicker travel with no negative impact on the environment. There are electric cars as well, as they do not produce carbon emissions or disgusting air pollution. Though they are expensive, they can be run cheaper.

Urban biodiversity

What is urban biodiversity? It is where a variety of organisms within a town or a city, whether it'd be flora, fauna, fungi or monera coexist with us. They can be on the ground we walk, the water we look at and above in the air we breathe in.

But there is a cost. The more we need to create for ourselves like building roads and manufacturing buildings, the more we reduce the beautiful natural land of urban biodiversity, so they either must adapt to survive and live or worse, die out.

Urban biodiversity ranges from long tall tree trunks, ducks and fishes swimming across the lake, flowers and green grasses that make up the beautiful sightings, birds that consume the seeds we give and worms and ants walking beneath the grass to travel.

They serve a lot in purpose, the songbirds sing their beautiful calls, flora stops the flood risks by drinking up the floods from stormwaters and bacteria in the soil of the ground can break down dead materials by releasing nutrients that feed future plants, trees and even vegetables and fruits.

Air quality

Finally, we will talk about the quality of the air and whether it will affect a human's health. When the quality of the air is poor, it becomes hazardous to people, especially towards anyone with lung or heart conditions, becoming very dangerous towards them.

Having clean air is a basic requirement for a healthy environment for the whole world to live in and bring families in. It has improved recently, but there are shortcomings. The risk of air pollution is a big risk that causes a lot of problems for the human body, from cancer to heart disease to even obesity.

To prevent toxic air, you can use less on a car that runs on petrol, reduce anything you burn in your garden and house, stay far away from the traffic when you're walking or cycling on the pavement far from the road or turning the engine off.

Usually, whenever you check the weather, it will explain how clean or toxic the air quality is. Starting from the green labelled as good, which indicates it is perfectly fine, to the end where it's red and labelled as hazardous, indicating it is too toxic, you can't enter the area, or you'll have an extreme chance of dying.

Flow Chart Scenes

  1. Introduction to Food Waste and where it goes after it's gone to the bin.
  2. Talk about how Food Waste affects the planet with statistics of the problem.
  3. Talk about what would happen if this continued and it could be a threat to Earth.
  4. Talk about how we could group together and solve the problem of Food Wastage.
  5. End the short video with saying "By learning the effects of the world, we can unite to save it."
  6. Start the website. Where you can play hotspots with quiz and splat games.
  7. The first hotspot is a splat game is about finding which food doesn't belong to the compost.
  8. The other three hotspots are all quizzes. One is about what you should do after finishing the food or buy one.
  9. The second hotspot quiz are the effects of food wastage and what it does.
  10. The final hotspot quiz is about food waste facts that aren't talked about.

Food Waste Risk Assessment

What are the hazards: There are three different food wastes: organic food waste, which are leftover food scraps, spoiled ingredients or biodegradable material. Inorganic food waste, these are packaging, plastics and non-biodegradable. And finally, hazardous food waste, harmful chemicals that commonly arrive from items like commentated pizza boxes.

Who might be harmed and why: Ignoring the Earth, which would be affected by the rubbish, this can affect a lot of people as it would be contributing world hunger for people who struggled to eat, financial problems as some people might have over spent money on food they haven't used and even health issues as food waste produced harmful gases.

What preventative measures are in the place: Buy any food if you think it's relevant for the day, use vegetables and fruit for fertiliser and use leftovers for later depending on the food.

Is there anything else that can be done to manage the hazard: Even if they have been in the bin, they can be used to fuel electricity and power every electronic and plastics and cardboard can be repurposed into a different material.

Who actions this: Food waste has been addressed by groups, people, businesses and even the government to help save Earth before it's too late.

When: Since early 2000s this has been addressed as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 12.3's aim is to reduce half per capita food waste and food loss by 2030.

My Intent Statement

What I'm going to analyse for my interactive website is all about the food waste on the environment as I have experienced at my home. At home, I separate the rubbish into different categories, food waste, plastic waste and compost.

Starting with the compost, this is where fruit and vegetables waste go into. When it's full of waste of the healthiest food, it is then sent off to be mixed with wood chips until it's nothing more than soil for the planet to use its energy.

Depending on if you have any animals outside your house, you can use any waste that are fruit, vegetables, rice and more to give animals some food they'll like. Though, obviously not all food like sweets or meat.

It is aimed for younger audiences to understand about climate change and the dangers and problems of it, so we can prevent this problem in the future.

My intent is not only use my experience in handling the waste I had to use, but also research information, facts and statistics about food wastage and how to solve the problem and make the planet more healthier.

Reflection Journal

Week 7

Day 25

Today was completely different. I was grouped with other students to play Pete's interactive game about maths and English because it was going to be everyone's next project for level 3.

Admittedly, there were some easy games but one felt like a guessing game than a game of maths or English with the hexagon game. Most of the overcoming was from help from other people who did a better job than me but I did some noticing and tricks from the games like the text colour matching the passcode from the opposite ends.

This method was obviously the only way to achieving it. But, what I have learnt is how effective teamwork and communication is. Next time, I would be working on research of the interactive.

Day 26

Second day on the second project was writing down about interactive learning to explain why it can be effective for students and how diverse it can be used for.

There are so many questions that I don't understand with the way it's explained for my problem. I overcome this problem by doing a bit of research so I can find some information about what I'm learning.

What I've learnt is not only is research effective but, one: it is hard finding the exact info and 2: I wished the questions were simplified. Next will be likely be the same as before.

Day 27

Today, Pete has asked us to start working on our interactive project because it was our second project to work on after working on the first project. There were some problems like working on a faulty computer, log into the website or picking a faulty image.

I thankfully overcome all of it, first I switched to a different computer, Pete emailed me my account's password and I switched to a different file away from webp. Those methods were chosen because Pete asked me to do all of these things.

What I've learnt is that webp is a bad file and needs to go away. Next time, I'll be helping on the sounds for the new college building reveal.

Day 28

On the final day of the week, I worked on holding the boom microphone to hold and make sure the voices are being picked up about the new building just got created to show the audiences about the people behind the building's ambitions to help everyone.

Holding the microphone for so long would cause strain on my arm so to overcome it, I had to switch to the other arm to do my job. I chose this method simply because I didn't want to pull arm down and had to carefully switch the arm.

What I have learnt about working for holding a boom mic, is it was hard to carry. Next day on college, I will go back to working on my interactive work.

Week 8

Day 29

Back to college, I worked on my interactive project to test everything out from Pete's request. There were problems like how I struggled to understand what I should add to the website.

Thank goodness, I was able to overcome the problem by looking at the documents and asking for help as there would be no other method other than what I chose.

What I have learnt is that once you got a demonstration on what to do, you'll be able to work right away. Next day, I'm working with Abby.

Day 30

Today, I worked on research on climate and nature decline. Why I researched on the subject is because Pete wanted the students to work on something educational to help the audience about the dangers.

I felt there were no problems I had to overcome. I felt that researching the ways for a healthy and sustainable future was really easy to look and thought this method was really simple for me to look into.

What I learnt is researching is key to look into everything around so long there's no misinformation. The next day I will work on Friday on either the research or my interactive website.

Day 31

On the final day of a start of a new term, I focused back to my research about climate change and decline because I was almost done with my research and it was close to the deadline of the research assignment.

Again, there were problems I was struggling. In all honestly, the only hindrance was my tiredness and I just overcome it by focusing on my work because that was a really simple method to stay focused.

There wasn't anything I thought I have learnt and did my absolute best. Next time, I will go back working on the interactive website.

Week 9

Day 32

Today, Pete showed us more about the interactive games of pollution and list what damages air pollution does to the planet because it was a relevant topic in our lesson, but also the whole world.

Most of the problem were mostly things I struggled to think of or don't know like the questions or coming up the air pollution problems. The latter, I was able to overcome by using the internet to find what causes air pollution. I chose this method because that is just researching on the topic.

There wasn't much I learnt other than repeating to research, which I have mentioned last times. Next time will be work on my interactive website and what I want to do with it.

Day 33

This day, I created a moodboard all about food wastage and why we should take it serious because it was a relevant subject for the college interactive course.

Only a slight problem and it was about talking about the positive statistics we accomplished. I was able to overcome it by mentioning one statistic and many countries that accomplished their clean goal. The method was chosen because there wasn't much positive statistics unfortunately.

What I have learnt we really need to clean the planet and put some laws like Japan and Denmark have implemented to succeed. Next, I will work on my interactive website and put the splat game.

Day 34

Today, I came back to work on my interactive website and add in a splat game to make a game educational about which food doesn't go to the compost and make people understand what they need to do.

There smidge problems I had with working on the website like how to put the food moving in and both the timer and score. I overcame this problem by asking for a bit of Pete's help about how to change the moving food. I chose this method because it was the only and easy choice to pick.

What I have learnt is to learn more about Interactive Studio and how it functions. Next time I will continue on working more about the website and publish my assignment.

Day 35

Today I have to finish my assignment to complete everything because the deadline is approaching and don't want to miss it. One problem was to get the risk assessment done before it the deadline.

And if you guessed researching in overcoming the problem, you would get it right. Because that was the only way to get everything done and ready for the assignments.

I feel like I'll be repeating myself too much about doing research on what I have learnt so I'll just say next time will be working more on the interactive website.

Week 10

Day 36

Today, I worked on a comparison on three different techniques because Pete wanted to test everyone in the classroom's work.

I struggled with what to compared the different techniques to each other. Thankfully, it was easy to search the many techniques of what movies use, a easy method to think of.

What I have learnt is that you can compare a bunch of techniques each other, even if they are vastly different. Next time I will continue work on my work that needs to be redone.

Day 37

On the second and final day of the week, I worked on more of the interactive website to make more content.

I admittedly struggled on what to do with the pages, but it was easy to overcome as I found the quizzes to help educate the children of the future.

Easy that I learnt to find extra template pages to create pages. Tomorrow, I won't be here on the rest of the week, so next week, I will resume to working on my interactive website.

Week 11

Day 38

After my holiday, I worked back on my interactive website so I can try and link to other scenes of question pages.

The problems I encountered were finding to how to link to the pages. Thankfully, Pete gave me a method to overcome and I saw a file of videos to make sure the hotspots are linked to a website. A simple method I chose because it was used for tutorial purposes.

What I have learnt is that I must always look at the video tutorials to understand what to do. What I will do next time is to continuing working on the website till I finally done.

Day 39

What I did early today was show everyone my website, so I can see what I did right about it and what I need to improve it. There were problems, first problem I have is the introduction text showing up after you play a game, some games don't go back to the menu and one game isn't completed.

While I couldn't find a way to overcome the opening text, I was able to make sure the games go back to the menu and I finally completed the last quiz game, an easy method by linking the ending to the opening scene.

What I have learnt is double checking every scene you have created in its code and make sure you added its purpose. Next I will clear out every cavity out for the website before the assignment's deadline.

Day 40

Today, I went to the TV Studio room to work with the Performing Arts group (which I used to work for in previous years) for Project 2.5 so I can work behind the scenes.

We used the rubber flexible rail to create a long rail that can curve and be straight with metal plating. But putting the rail on the metal plating was hard to connect together.

Pete suggested to use the ground to push the rail and plating together, which the method helped a lot for a bit. Though, it would sometimes disconnect so we had to use tape to make sure they stay connected.

What I have learnt about setting the camera railings is that they are a pain to connect them properly. Next time, I will work with Performing Arts again.

Day 41

Today, I worked with the Performing Arts group again, this time in their room. Because we had to check on the storyboards of their plays.

The problem I had was understanding the storyboards I saw and what to do with them. Aimee (who was my old teacher for Theatre Inc) was nice to help me out with the storyboards and I was able to write down the various shots of each scene of the storyboard. I was happy to choose this method to help point and label the camera shots as that's going to be my job for Project 2.5.

What I have learnt is always label what they already added for camera shots or write a different camera shot you think works more. Next time, I will work on my immersive game.

Week 12

Day 42

On the first day of the first week of December, I worked on the website to see what needs to change and then look at the last assignment for Project 2 to prepare completion.

There was a tiny problems in that there were no results at the end in one of the quiz. How did I overcome it? I just find the disable results and switched it off. A very simple method that doesn't need to be elaborated.

What I have learnt is to double check everything that is meant to be fixed. Tomorrow, it's either working with Performing Arts or working on the site again.

Day 43

On this day, I continued testing and rework on my flow chart to catch up with other projects.

There wasn't really any problems I had with to overcome or any methods so I just worked with no problem.

There wasn't much I learn about of the day, but I do know that next time will be another catchup.

Day 44

Final day of the week, I have finally finished my website by adding information boxes to the website to show the facts about food waste.

Only a very minor problem I encountered and it is just looking back on the information I showed, which I overcame by looking back at my question and more obviously, looking back at my research.

This method was really easy to choose because research is a very important part of working. Though, there wasn't much I learnt. Next week, I will more likely focus on Performing Arts.
